YORK, Penn. - Amy Risko loves her dogs, and when one of them had a sensitive stomach, she started baking homemade dog treats.
"We use peanut butter, eggs, whole wheat flour and just mix it together and it's just wonderful," said Risko
It is one unlikely ingredient that brought this small dog treat business together with the local bar scene.
"I'm not a beer drinker, dare I say, so I didn't know much about the process," Risko said.
The beer making process leaves behind spent grain that Risko can use.
The grain is looked at just a waste for beer makers because the sugars are gone, but it is perfect for the treats Risko makes.
She collaborates with a local brewing company who work together even after the treats are finished.
The brewery sells the completed treats.
"We try to work with more local people whenever we can, because we're small, there [are] other small people and we love to support each other," Risko said.
