Doctor killed during rafting accident

GUNNISON COUNTY - The sheriff's office says Dr. Michael Dennington, who practiced medicine in the Aurora and Parker areas, died after a rafting accident on Friday afternoon.

According to the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened on the Gunnison River between McCabe's Lane and Blue Mesa Lake.

Dennington, an adult female and three juveniles, were thrown out of a raft when it overturned. The woman and the juveniles were carried downstream and were able to climb out.

Dennington was found dead one-and-a-half miles downstream from the accident.

The woman and juveniles all were treated and are recovering.

Their names have not been released.

Dennington owned a vacation home in the Gunnison area.
