The cycling event is projected to generate millions of dollars in local revenues for local hotels, restaurants and retail establishments over the next several years. Vuelta a Salida is destined to further establish the town of Salida and Chaffe County as a summertime mecca for cycling enthusiasts in the years ahead.
On Saturday, August 18, 2012 Salida and Chaffe County will host Vuelta a Salida, a first class cycling event attracting cyclists of all ages from around the state of Colorado and throughout the Western region.
The timed race starts at 7 a.m. with an estimated 1,000 cyclists of all skill levels...novice, intermediate, advanced and professional. The course starts in the beautiful, downtown Salida at Riverside Park and the Arkansas River along U.S. Hwy. 285, U.S. Hwy 24 and a network of rural Chaffee County roads. The course rides through the panoramic countryside of the Sawatch Range with breathtaking views of the 14,000 foot peaks.
Elite riders who finish 100 miles in less than five hours will be awarded a platinum medal and receive platinum status for five years which allows the rider to start at the front of the race.
The Vuelta a Salida will also be a major underwriter of local charitable organizations through its beneficiary fundraising program. Of the charities, one will be the Salida High School Mountain Bike Team.
